A health system that supports contraceptive choice

Status – CURRENT

The report by the Australian Healthcare and Hospitals Association, which was funded by MSD  in Australia, states that inadequate Medicare rebates are one of the key reasons women are not offered more effective and less user-dependent methods of contraception.  The  report identifies unplanned pregnancy as “a key health issue for women in Australia”. It calls for increased Medicare  funding for contraception services, including the extension of Medicare items to include nurses working in GP clinics who insert and remove different types of long-acting reversible  contraceptive devices.

Investing in women’s mental health: strengthening the foundations for women, families and the Australian economy

ALSW PLAIN LANGUAGE SUMMARY: Comparing women’s diets to the updated Australian dietary guidelines.

The Australian Dietary Guidelines (ADG) 2013 were updated to reflect the latest scientific evidence. This summary reveals the low percentage of woman from different age groups with diets that would meet the new standards. The summary also suggests how diets could be changed transitionally to meet the new guidelines.

Partners to Parents

This evidence-informed website aims to prevent perinatal depression and anxiety by educating partners on how they can support one another when they become parents. It aims to prevent maternal mental health problems during the transition to parenthood by addressing aspects of the partner relationship such as the division of labour. The Path to Justice: Migrant and Refugee Women’s Experience of the Courts

In 2015, the Judicial Council on Cultural Diversity identified the need to develop a national  framework aimed at strengthening the capacity of the Australian court system to provide  access to justice for women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including  Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.
